Jim Thomas and Gratia Rankin came to KKUP in 1987 after a year plus stint as jazz DJ's at KSCU, the college station for Santa Clara University where Gratia is on staff. After a period as substitutes for other programmers, they got their own show on the first and third Friday's of each month alternating their blues program, Mood Indigo, with The Gospel According to KKUP, a program archival gospel quartet music from the 1920's through the 50's. Several years ago the gospel program was replaced with Volunteered Slavery.

Over the years they've become more and more involved with community radio and working to keep KKUP non-commercial and 100% listener sponsored. They're active in station management, both serving on KKUP's Board of Directors and in various other capacities. For a more in-depth look,
